ART PANTS – A WILL ROEGGE & LINHBERGH YEAR LONG DAILY 365 PHOTO CHALLENGE bio picture

What is Art Pants?

Art Pants is a 365 day-long-daily-photography-challenge, featuring Will Roegge and Linhbergh Nguyen which was started on November 1st, 2009. Our goal is to each publish one photograph a day for an entire year. But different from usual "photo 365s" out there, we've set ourselves a rules to abide by throughout the year:

1. No photos of anything automobile related

2. No self portraits.

Both of those rules are there to prevent us from going the easy route on taking our daily photos, or in other words, to use a crutch. The purpose of this project is to make the both of us think outside of our usual subjects and expand our creative defaults. The harder we make it upon ourselves, the better off we'll be creatively (or so we hope so!) come Novemeber 1st 2010.

We'll also be having different 'theme weeks' throughout the year. These themes could range from different subject matters; places, portraits, grass, sunrises, landscapes, faces, etc, etc. Or it could even be a technical theme; biggest aperature, smallest aperature, slow shutter speeds, 35mm film, camera phone fast action, etc....

We would love to hear your input throughout the course of the year. If you have ANY ideas for theme weeks or shots you'd like to see, let us know!

Oh, we both love black coffee and we both love Art Pants.

Day 44 – Abstract Theme 7 of 7

Day #43 Abstract Theme 7 of 7 – For the final day of Abstract Theme week I’m going to pull a Jasper Johns. No, I’m not using a broom and paint to make a piece. Instead I’m following Linhbergh’s lead, the color of the flower and the texture of rust made the framing appeal to...

Day 43 – Abstract Theme 6 of 7

Day #42, second to last day of the Abstract Theme Week. While down in Costa Rica, I have been able to enjoy beverages from glass bottles. This might sound like an odd pleasure – considering many great beverages come in glass bottles in the United States. Soda in a glass bottle and made from real...

Day 42 – Abstract Theme 5 of 7

Day #41 – Abstract Theme Week 5 of 7. The color and square cutout shape of this door caught my attention while walking the streets of Jaco, Costa Rica. Since I’ve been stuck in airports for too long – I have some serious PANTS’ing to do now. No artists to reference, just: shape, color, and...

Day 40 – Abstract Theme 4 of 7

Day #40 – Abstract Theme 4 of 7. Linhbergh’s first abstraction referenced the work of Piet Mondrian. Mondrian’s linear composition, flat white background, and use of primary colors is simply captivating. At dinner…yes dinner, I noticed the ceiling was exposed. The wiring, piping, and lighting being visible – and creating an impressive intersection of lines. ...

Day 39 – Abstract Theme 3 of 7

Day #39 -  Reflections of the Broadway Bar in downtown Los Angeles are lost in the grunge of the parallel storefront. The neon glow of the sign caught my attention and fades into a mass of glowing text. Framed by a hastily painted wall. Artifacts of popular culture and the past. Like this photo! NEVERMIND!

Day 38 – Abstract Theme 2 of 7

Day #38 – Abstract Series Theme 2 of 7. Personally, some of the greatest art comes from the elements. It can modify human creation in ways a brush cannot. Water pours through the cracks and stains the walls. Nature makes it’s own abstract expressionist work. Maybe a rain storm is the best action painter? Its...
